The Cellar Dwellers from Venlo. Founded in 1990 by guitarist Sven (the only constant band member) the band had a few gigs but started picking up pace in its more steady line up in 1993. New bass guitarist Pat brought some more songwriting to the band as well and the band got a tighter more rockier feel. Lots of gigs and they recorded a demo plainly called "Cellar Dwellers". The band hade a good reputation for wild live shows and a good following. In 1996 there where some clashes over the musical direction the band was taking and the band parted with vocalist Roelie. With young punk upstart Bas as a new vocalist, the band became more melodic in music inspite of the punkier lyrics and Sven took a larger share in the vocal department. The band released another demo: "Don't dwell in Hell, dwell in the cellar" which was recieved with mixed opinions. Some liked the more melodic side of the band whilst others protested the the stray away from it's punk roots. Also the very punky song "Shut Up" was recorded for the "Perrongeluk" compilation cd. The band split up in 1997. Roelie & Pat where having some success with Falling Leaf, Frank as a Dj/ producer, and Sven with Smithsonian and Joplin's Potion with Sjonnie. In 1999 due to public demand a reunion gig was planned, with Roelie behind the mic stand and stand-in drummer Stephan behind the kit. It was a great success and the band was eager for more. Pat was already living in the Uk so they found replacement in Marcel and got Richard as a permanent drummer. They played many gigs (even in Ireland) and releasing the cd "Eat Your Roadkill" showing a more punkier feel to the band. But the cracks where showing and first Richie,Sjonnie and then Roelie left the band due to commitment issues and/ or musical differences. Sander replaced first Richie behind the kit and on his return Sjonnie as a guitarist. Andy took up position behind the mic stand. In 2008 the band finally called it a day after having the re-kindled fire going out. But the flame didn't die out completely, with a new re-kindled fire, they are back! |
