Geslappter Kontrabass, twangende Gitarrenriffs und Gesang - so begann Rockabilly in den frühen 1950ern. In dieser Minimalbesetzung gründeten die langjährigen Freunde Thomas Henderikx und Roman Pauli im Oktober 2008 das Rockabilly-Duett Romantic Tomcats, das sich nach kurzen 4 Monaten in Proberaum und Studio bereits mit selbst veröffentlichter Demo EP in den Kneipen rund um Aachen der Öffentlichkeit vorstellte. Es folgten diverse Konzerte in der regionalen Umgebung ihres Heimatortes Heinsberg, unter anderem als Supportact von Boppin B’. Im Sommer 2009 entwickelte sich das Duett zur waschechten Rock ’n’ Roll Formation, mit Tim Gleichmann am Saxophon und Felix Zimmermann am Schlagzeug. Auch in dieser Besetzung hielten die 4 jungen Musiker es nicht lange im Proberaum aus und stellten bei zahlreichen Auftritten rasch ihre Live-Kompetenzen unter Beweis. In Zusammenarbeit mit der 16-köpfigen SSB-Bigband krönte „Swinging X-Mas Vol.3“ den Jahresabschluss, an dem sicher auch Brian Setzer seine Freude gehabt hätte. Mit ihrem kommenden Debütalbum „Seasick“ zeigen sich die romantischen Kater auch in 2010 weiterhin strebsam, wenn Konzerte - beispielsweise im Vorprogramm vom King of the Surfguitar Dick Dale - auf der Agenda stehen. Romantic Tomcats mischen die Ursprünge der Rockabillymusik mit ihren eigenen Einflüssen aus Rock ’n’ Roll, Blues und Swing zu einer tanzbaren Stil-Kombination, bei der es schwer fällt die Füße stillzuhalten! english Slapped doublebass, twanging guitar riffs and a singer. This is how they’ve started rockabilly in the early 1950s. In this minimal-cast long-time friends Thomas Henderikx and Roman Pauli founded the rockabilly-duet “Romantic Tomcats” in 2008, introducing themselves after four short month in rehearsal room and studio with their self-released demo ep in pubs and bars around Aachen to the public. Several gigs around their hometown Heinsberg followed, inter alia as support act for Boppin B’. In summer 2009 the duet in fact turned into a real rock’n’roll formation, with Tim Gleichmann on Saxophone and Felix Zimmermann on drums. In this cast, the four musicians could not stay in rehearsal room for a long time, either and quickly showed their live-competences on several gigs to the audience. In cooperation with the 16-piece SSB Bigband “Swinging X-Mas Vol.3” made a great year-end, Brian Setzer would have loved as well. With their upcoming debut-album “Seasick” the guys keep on staying ambitious, while concerts – for example with King of the Surf Guitar Dick Dale – are on their agenda. Romantic Tomcats are mixing the roots of rockabilly music with their very own influences from rock’n’roll, blues and swing to a danceable style-combination, making it hard to keep your feet on the ground! |
